Since its grand opening in 2005, the Q1 Tower has been a defining feature of the Surfers Paradise skyline. Once holding the title as the world’s tallest residential tower, it now ranks as the 17th highest globally, but it remains an iconic structure and one of the Gold Coast’s top tourist destinations. Standing 322.5 metres (1,058 feet) tall, the Q1 Tower holds the distinction of being the tallest building in Australia, offering spectacular views from its observation deck on level 77. At 230 metres (750 feet) high, the deck is the highest of its kind in Queensland, providing a breathtaking 360-degree panorama, stretching from Brisbane to Byron Bay. Visitors can marvel at the views while taking in the sheer scale of the tower’s spire, which reaches an additional 100 metres (328 feet) above the observation deck.

A short distance from the Q1 Tower, the Surfers Paradise Meter Maids have been a charming local tradition since 1965. Initially created to alleviate the challenges of new parking regulations, these iconic figures roam the streets to help drivers by inserting coins into expired parking meters and leaving a calling card to ensure they avoid fines. While the scheme has evolved and is now managed by private enterprise, the Meter Maids continue to be a beloved part of Surfers Paradise’s cultural fabric, delighting both visitors and residents alike.

Another important addition to the Gold Coast is the newly revitalized Chinatown in Southport, an area that's contributing to the transformation of the city’s Central Business District (CBD). This area, with its international influence, further highlights the Gold Coast's growing importance as a global destination and vibrant cultural hub.

Together, the Q1 Tower, the Meter Maids, and the development of Chinatown add to the Gold Coast's unique charm, making it a dynamic blend of tradition and modernity that attracts millions of visitors every year.
